He’s become somewhat of a cultural force in the crafting world when it comes to his work with a needle and a ball of wool.
And now Tom Daley has taken his crochet career to new levels, launching his own range of DIY crochet and embroidery kits.
The Olympic medallist, 31, is known for his expert knitting and crocheting skills and now the sportsman is giving fans to have a chance to make their own creations at home with his Made With Love kits.
Stocked exclusively at Hobbycraft, Tom took to Instagram on Thursday to share a glimpse at the products which range from a funky multi-coloured zebra to a more beginner friendly peach key ring.
The 11-piece collection celebrates Tom’s love of yarn crafts with a fun, animal and fruit inspired twist as well as positive slogan embroidery designs and fun iron-on patches for those not as well versed with a crochet hook.
Each kit comes with everything needed to get started, from hooks and threads to easy-to-follow instructions, and prices range from £4 to £12.
Speaking about his new brand Tom explained: ‘Crafting has been such a big part of my life in recent years, it’s my way to relax and express myself.
‘This is why I am so excited to be launching this brand new Made With Love range exclusively at Hobbycraft as the collection has been designed to inspire creativity while also allowing makers to add their own fun, quirky touch to their crafting experience.
‘I can’t wait to see the results from those making and creating with these new products.’
Tom gained widespread attention for knitting in the stands at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and since then, has made yarn crafts cool again.
Now, according to Hobbycraft’s recent Power of Making Report in partnership with mental health charity Mind, over half of survey respondents who take part in crafting said that it improves their mood and revealed they feel a real sense of achievement from crafting.
Trading & Marketing Director at Hobbycraft Paul Solly added: ‘Tom’s passion and enthusiasm for yarn crafts is infectious.
‘We’ve loved working collaboratively with him on this collection. At Hobbycraft we’re passionate about hobbies and crafting and helping our customers enjoy more of what they love every day, and this new Made With Love by Tom Daley range will do this.’
Tom was spotted with his knitting equipment at the Paris Olympics, after he was regularly seen knitting while poolside at the Tokyo games.
Last year Tom auctioned off a pair of his swimming trunks on Sunday for £10,000 after announcing his retirement from diving.
The star put his hand-crocheted trunks on eBay and and fans immediately flooded to the site.
His passion project received a total of 112 bids and managed to raise a staggering amount of money for charity.
The crochet swimming trunks were made in partnership with drinks brand Malibu and the Royal Life Saving Society UK.
The tiny pair of swimming briefs feature the phrase: ‘Don’t drink and dive’ in white writing and include a Malibu branded label.
The five-time Olympic diver created the limited edition swimming trunks in an effort to raise awareness for alcohol-related deaths in and around water.
All proceeds from the auction went to the Royal Life Saving Society UK which works to improve safety and education around water.
Tom has also previously spoken about the cathartic effect knitting has on his mindset during competitions, after setting up an Instagram page showing his fits called Made With Love By Tom Daley.
He said: ‘When we went to Japan for the test event I actually took my knitting with me and was doing it during my competition because sometimes there’s 45 minutes in between each dive so I’d sit there and knit and just take my mind off the competition completely. I’m obsessed!’
